Print tips & How to

With Canon’s FINE (Full-photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering) technology you get speed without sacrificing quality.

Achieving speed and quality demands 4 things from a print head:

   1.   High-precision microscopic nozzles

   2.   A large number of nozzles

   3.   Placing the droplets placed at high density

   4.   A long overall print head

1.High-precision microscopic nozzles

FINE print heads are made using a manufacturing process called photolithography, which is similar to the way that computer chips are made. This process means that the nozzles can be made smaller and packed more densely onto the print head.

2. Large number of nozzles

More nozzles means faster print times. If a print head has only 200 nozzles it will have to operate at three times the speed to equal the same ink dispersal as a head with 600 nozzles.

More nozzles is a much more efficient way of increasing print speeds than speeding up the print carriage.

3. High density nozzles

Not only does more nozzles mean faster print times, it also means improvement in print quality. When nozzles are widely spaced, the pitch (or nozzle density) is low and the print head will need to make a number of passes to achieve high image quality.
When the nozzles are closely packed with a high density, fewer passes are required to achieve higher resolution.

4. Longer print heads

The fourth component in generating high quality photo prints at a high speed is a long print head. With a longer print head, fewer passes are required to complete a page.

These are the 4 vital components of a FINE print head.

Ink is right at the heart of photo printing. It can make the difference between dull or vibrant colours, between blurry or sharp photo prints, or between prints that fade easily and those that keep their quality for a lifetime. That’s why Canon spares no effort in developing the inks and systems that deliver the quality prints your photos deserve.

This page is dedicated to Canon inks – the lifeblood of your PIXMA.

Ink demands

PIXMA Photo Printers and Photo All-in-Ones are very demanding when it comes to ink:

The inks must remain stable during operation, since they are instantaneously heated to high temperatures

They must be capable of forming microscopic ink droplets – in some cases more than two million times smaller than a raindrop – without clogging the tiny ink nozzles in the print head

The inks must retain a perfect spherical shape when expelled so that they are always placed on the paper with accuracy and precision

Our genuine Canon inks have been developed to meet each of these demands, print after print.

Quality that lasts

All photographs fade; inkjet printed photographs are no exception. Canon ink is engineered to minimise the impact of light and gases in the air.

Also, almost all PIXMA products feature ChromaLife100, the system in which the inks, paper and print head work together to provide you with beautiful, long-lasting prints.

And as with all Canon products, inks are manufactured to stringent safety and environmental standards.

Genuine Canon photo papers are designed specifically to cover everybody’s printing requirements – whether you are generating professional quality studio prints for display in your showroom, or keeping your children entertained with personalised stickers. Professionals

Professional photographers need paper to show their work to its best advantage, and Canon has the paper that won’t look out of place in any gallery – Photo Paper Pro (PR-101). With high optical density thanks to its five-layer construction, optimum studio results can be achieved.

Advanced amateur

For an amateur DSLR photographer who generates her own works of art, the Photo Paper Plus range is the ideal print companion. With glossy (PP-101) or Semi-gloss (SG-101/201) finishes, every photo will look its best.

Holiday pictures

When you want to print your holiday memories, you need a print that rivals that of the photo lab, which is when Glossy Photo Paper (GP-401, GP-501) is the right choice. Available in packs of 100 or a trial pack of 10, so you can make sure that it is the right paper for you.

Kids

Rainy day outside and the kids are bored? No problem. Let them loose with your Digital IXUS and a pack of photo stickers (PS-101). The stickers can also be used to personalise envelopes and invitations. With the Photo Album Kit (PAK-101) you can create a bound record of family fun or even make an album for friends and give it as a gift.

Artists

Creative media (GP-401, MP101), with its high brightness, is great for eye-catching displays with vivid colours. When artistry counts, this is the right paper.

And naturally, all of your images will look better if they are printed on Canon paper, using genuine Canon inks.

Be unique! Customise your t-shirt with photos, graphics or your own designs. Simply print them on Canon’s special t-shirt transfer paper and iron onto your shirt. Inkjet Page Yields When you are looking to buy an inkjet photo printer or photo all-in-one, the page yield (the number of pages one can print from an ink cartidge) may be a decision factor.

On these pages you can find a clear overview of the PIXMA page yields.

Find out what’s the page yield of your PIXMA. Canon complies with the new inkjet ISO standards for measuring page yields.
